Anthurium Plant Description

The Anthurium, also affectionately known as the Flamingo Flower or Laceleaf, is a delightful and exotic plant that really brightens up any indoor space. These plants are famous for their shiny, wax-like flowers, which aren't actually flowers but are modified leaves called spathes. These spathes are often brilliantly colored in shades of red, pink, or white, making them real standouts. The true flowers of the Anthurium are tiny and line the fleshy spike in the center, known as the spadix.

Care Plan for Anthurium

Light: Anthuriums do best in bright, indirect light. They can tolerate some lower light conditions, but their growth might slow down, and you'll see fewer flowers. Too much direct sunlight can scorch their leaves, so just be mindful of their placement, especially near south or west-facing windows.

Water and Humidity: These tropical beauties love humidity and appreciate a good drink of water, but it’s crucial not to overwater them. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. If your home is dry, especially in winter, a small humidifier nearby or a pebble tray with water can help keep them happy.

Pet Safety: One important note for pet owners—Anthurium plants are toxic to both cats and dogs. They contain calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation and swelling of the mouth and GI tract if chewed or ingested. It's best to keep these plants out of reach of curious pets.

General Tips: Keep your Anthurium looking its best by wiping the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust. This not only keeps the plant healthy but also enhances its beautiful, natural gloss.
