Care information

  • Wash: Maintain the tee's quality by washing it in cold water, which helps preserve the fabric and the vibrancy of the print
  • Dry: Tumble dry on a low setting or hang dry to retain the shape and size of the tee post-wash
  • Store: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain the integrity of the fabric and colors.

Common Names: String of Dolphins

Botanical Name: Senecio peregrinus

Senecio Peregrinus Description

The "String of Dolphins" features fleshy, curved leaves that are attached to trailing stems which cascade beautifully over the sides of containers. Each leaf is shaped like a little dolphin, with the tips representing the nose and the curved body mimicking the dolphin's back. This plant is perfect for hanging baskets or high shelves where its vines can drape downward freely.

Care Plan for Senecio Peregrinus

Light: This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning, but too much direct sun can scorch the leaves. If light conditions are too low, the "dolphins" may lose their distinctive shape as the plant stretches toward the light.

Watering: Like most succulents, the String of Dolphins prefers a "soak and dry" method for watering. Allow the soil to completely dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly. Ensure excellent drainage to avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. Reduce watering in the winter when the plant's growth slows.

Humidity: Senecio Peregrinus does well in average household humidity levels. It does not require the high humidity that some more delicate houseplants might.

Temperature: Maintain temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C). Protect the plant from drafts and extreme temperatures, which can stress it.

Child and Pet Safety: Senecio Peregrinus, like many other Senecios, contains toxins that can be harmful if ingested by pets or humans. The sap can cause irritation and vomiting, so it's advisable to keep this plant out of reach of children and pets.

General Tips: Fertilize with a diluted succulent fertilizer during the growing season, generally every month or two. Pruning can help maintain a bushy appearance and encourage fuller growth. Be sure to handle the plant gently as the leaves can detach easily. Periodic grooming and removal of any dead or dying "dolphins" will keep your plant healthy and attractive.
