Snake Plant 'Zeylanica' features tall, upright leaves that are dark green with lighter green horizontal stripes. This variety of Snake Plant is particularly tough, capable of thriving under a range of indoor conditions and known for its air-purifying qualities, making it a popular choice for homes and offices.
Care Plan for Snake Plant 'Zeylanica'
Light: This plant is exceptionally adaptable to various lighting conditions. It thrives in anything from bright, indirect light to low light settings. While it can tolerate low light, its growth may be slower, and the vibrancy of its leaves might diminish slightly.
Watering: The Snake Plant 'Zeylanica' prefers to be watered sparingly. Allow the soil to completely dry out between waterings, as the plant is susceptible to root rot if overwatered. During the winter months, reduce watering frequency even further.
Humidity: Sansevieria 'Zeylanica' is not demanding regarding humidity and can tolerate dry indoor air without issue. However, it appreciates occasional misting or a pebble tray in very dry environments.
Temperature: It does well in typical room temperatures but prefers environments between 55-85°F (13-29°C). Avoid exposure to drafts and sudden temperature swings.
Child and Pet Safety: It is important to note that the Snake Plant 'Zeylanica' is toxic to both pets and humans if ingested. It can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea in pets; thus, it should be placed in an area out of their reach.
General Tips: Fertilize with a general-purpose houseplant fertilizer at half strength during the growing season, typically spring through early fall. No more than once a month is necessary. The Snake Plant 'Zeylanica' rarely needs repotting and can be left in the same pot for years until it physically outgrows it.
